IIT Bombay held its annual Alumni Day on December 29, 2024, at VMCC, starting with a tribute to former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. The event featured welcoming remarks from Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations) and an address by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, in presence of Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation) and Prof K V K Rao, Deputy Director (Finance, Infrastructure and Administration), IIT Bombay, highlighting the Institute’s progress over the years.
This year’s Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Mr. Rajindra Harcharan Singh (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1988); Mr. Sandeep Asthana (B.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1990), and Mr. Sudhir Jayram Nikam (B.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1993) for their significant contributions to the Institute. The Chapter Service Awards, given to select alumni for their ongoing support of their respective chapters, were awarded to Mr. Ranjan Ojha (B.Tech., Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, 1998 (Chapter: Chicago, USA); Ms. Shweta Bhandari, B.Tech., Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, 2002 (Chapter: Greater New York, USA); Mr. Sagar Shah, Dual Degree, Chemical Engineering, 2008 (Chapter: Greater New York, USA); Ms. Sita Mahalakshmi Durvasula (E-MBA, Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, 2016 (Chapter: Hyderabad, India) and Mr. Sunay Wagle, M.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 2017 (Chapter: Pune, India).
Recognizing the alumni community for their continued support and giving back to the Institute, IIT Bombay honoured its top donors of 2024 by unveiling a Donor Wall on the occasion. The Class of 1963 was also recognized for their support, with representative Dr. Dhirendranath N. Buragohain (former Dean of Planning, IIT Bombay [1984-87]) and the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering., IIT Bombay [1988-91]) sharing fond memories.
The 4th edition of the ‘GO-IIT Bombay’ fundraising campaign was launched. Ms. Zenobia Driver presented an overview of ‘Project Evergreen’ aimed at improving student housing. The Silver Jubilee Batch of 1999 pledged Rs. 21.2 crores for its Legacy Project to support academic initiatives and help IIT Bombay realize its vision of ranking among the world’s top 50 universities by 2030.
The celebration brought together alumni, faculty and students, showcasing the enduring legacy and collaborative spirit of IIT Bombay’s community.
