The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India on August 15, 2024, near the iconic arch facing the Nandan Nilekani Main Building. The event began with the hoisting of the national flag by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, at 9:00 a.m., followed by his address to the gathering, in presence of the Chief Guest Institute alumnus, Mr. Deepak Satwalekar [B.Tech. (Hons)., Mechanical Engineering, 1971)].

In his speech, Prof. Kedare extended warm greetings to the IIT Bombay community and highlighted the Institute's recent achievements and milestones. He also emphasized the significance of the ongoing 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, which commemorate 78 years of India's progressive independence.

On the occasion, the Director and Chief Guest felicitated Shri Prem Bahadur Gangabir Pun, Sr. Multi-skilled Assistant, Department of Civil Engineering for completing 40 years of service in the Institute.

The ceremony was well-attended by faculty, staff, and students, and was broadcast live on the Institute's YouTube channel. The event also featured a student cultural program and a tree plantation drive to symbolize growth and unity. Furthermore, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign was promoted, with campus residents hoisting the national flag in their homes and capturing selfies at the dedicated selfie booth near the flag hoisting arch.

The Institute's campus was decorated with tricolour lights, adding to the festive atmosphere.
