<p>IIT Bombay celebrates 65 years of its pursuit of excellence towards global leadership with an event held on campus today. This special occasion witnessed attendance by distinguished alumni, faculty, students, well-wishers, and entrepreneurs. The event honoured the exemplary contributions, mentorship, and overall involvement of alumni and well-wishers who have played a critical role in the steady growth and progress of the Institute.</p><p>As part of this event, a special felicitation ceremony was held to honour distinguished alumnus, Mr. Nandan Nilekani - B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, Class of 1973. Mr. Nilekani is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Infosys Technologies Limited and Founding Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This momentous occasion recognised and applauded Mr. Nilekani’s exceptional mentorship and support to IIT Bombay.</p><p><br />In recognition of his esteemed service and philanthropic support to the Institute, IIT Bombay's Board of Governors deliberated and decided to dedicate its iconic Main Building to him. The building shall be henceforth named the “Nandan Nilekani Main Building.” The plaque for the same was unveiled today in the presence of the Director of IIT Bombay, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Mr. Nilekani and his family members and other dignitaries.</p><p>Responding to the recognition, Mr Nandan Nilekani said, “I am deeply grateful to the Board of Governors of IIT Bombay for this incredible honour. IIT Bombay has immeasurably shaped my life, and I acknowledge the contributions of the team at IIT Bombay, alums and everyone else who have enabled me to give forward to the Institute. I dedicate this honour to every student who walks by the iconic building - I hope it inspires them to imagine and forge a better tomorrow.”</p><p>Speaking at the event, Prof. Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay, said, “IIT Bombay is always striving to develop socially impactful technology innovations towards building research and academic excellence that will drive the next phase of India’s growth and self-reliance. Behind our growth lies the unwavering support and contributions of our alumni, who have not only excelled in their respective fields but have also given back generously to their alma mater. We are committed to our vision of emerging as a global leader in science & technology education. I am confident that with the sustained support of our cherished alumni, IIT Bombay will be successful in achieving this milestone.
