Cell for human values was started at IIT Bombay around 2001 with an objective to bring out the values,ethical and societal dimension of Science & Technology education being imparted at IIT.

Indian youth,including the new generation of engineers and scientists, distance themselves from Indian tradition, do not take sufficient interest in their own heritage, culture and values, and often exhibit contempt for the Indian way of life. This value education thus is started up keeping in mind this issue and it is not only necessary for personal development, but also for defining goals, quality of national character which the citizens of a multilingual, culturally diverse country such as India wish to aspire.
