IIT Bombay Celebrates Constitution Day

Constitution Day also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India.

As per the MHRD directives, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay celebrated the day on November 26, 2019 by commemorating function of Samvidhan Divas from 11 am onwards at the ground floor foyer of Main Building of the Institute to observe Constitution Day in the presence of Institute functionaries Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, Prof. A.K. Suresh, Dy. Director (AIA), Prof. P.M. Mujumdar, Dy. Director (FEA), Prof. K.P. Kaliappan, Dean (Faculty), Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. R. Premkumar, Registrar, and others.

Dr. R. Premkumar, Registrar, IIT Bombay gave an brief introduction of the programme and stated that the current year 2019, marks the 70th year of the adoption of the Constitution and it has been decided by the Government to run an awareness campaign focused on Citizens’ Duties including Fundamental Duties as enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

The reading of the preamble and the pledge administration (both in Hindi and English) took place at the scheduled time 10:45 am in front of large gathering consisting of faculty, students, and staff of the Institute. Concurrently (at 11 am) the gathering watched the live steaming/ telecast of the commemoration function of Samvidhan Divas addressed by Hon'ble President of India, Hon'ble Vice President and Hon'ble Prime Minister of India at Central Hall, Parliament House to observe the events on Constitution Day and other activities as planned during the campaign.
